چکیده

Abstract In recent years, various applications for algae-based ß-1,3-glucans have been postulated, including animal feed and human nutrition. Chrysolaminarin is a ß-1,3–1,6-glucan produced by diatoms such as Phaeodactylum tricornutum energy storage. It accumulated under nutrient-depleted cultivation conditions. this study, the production of chrysolaminarin in artificially illuminated scalable flat panel airlift photobioreactors (FPA) was investigated using P. two-stage process. growth stage primarily biomass produced, subsequent nitrogen-depleted induces accumulation chrysolaminarin. Three strains (SAG 1090-1a, SAG 1090-1b, 1090–6) were cultured at laboratory scale 6 L-FPA reactors controlled light conditions to characterize process identify strain. The content algae analysed additionally their contents eicosapentaenoic acid fucoxanthin, both which could be involved possible co-production. Strain 1090-1b exhibited highest productivity (317 ± 9 mg g DW −1 ) after nitrogen depletion, thus stood out most suitable A co-production three compounds possible. However, during depletion there occurred trade-offs between compounds. As amount fucoxanthin culture stagnated or even decreased depending on selected

Dynamics of triacylglycerol and EPA production in Phaeodactylum tricornutum under nitrogen starvation at different light intensities

Lipid production in microalgae is highly dependent on the applied light intensity. However, for the EPA producing model-diatom Phaeodactylum tricornutum, clear consensus on the impact of incident light intensity on lipid productivity is still lacking. This study quantifies the impact of different incident light intensities on the biomass, TAG and EPA yield on light in nitrogen starved batch cul...

On Energy Balance and Production Costs in Tubular and Flat Panel Photobioreactors

Reducing mixing in both flat panel and tubular photobioreactors can result in a positive net energy balance with state-of-the-art technology and Dutch weather conditions. In the tubular photobioreactor, the net energy balance becomes positive at velocities < 0.3 ms-1, at which point the biomass production cost is 3.2 €/kg dry weight. In flat panel reactors, this point is at an air supply rate <...

Growth of and omega-3 fatty acid production by Phaeodactylum tricornutum under different culture conditions.

Detailed studies were carried out on the effects of nitrogen source, phosphate, sodium chloride, growth factors, precursors, CO2, temperature, initial pH, and inoculum size on biomass and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) production by Phaeodactylum tricornutum. The EPA content of total fatty acids increased with increasing concentrations of nitrate and urea. Sodium chloride was not required for grow...
